About Reconciling in Christ

What is the Reconciling in Christ Program?

In 1984 Lutherans Concerned / North America started the Reconciling in Christ ("RIC") Program to recognize Lutheran congregations that welcome lesbian and gay believers. During the 2002 LC/NA Assembly, members took action to include people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in the RIC Program. The complete Reconciling in Christ Roster now exceeds 450 settings, including congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, and organizations.

RIC Synods, Colleges, Seminaries and Organizations

In 1984 Lutherans Concerned / North America started the Reconciling in Christ program to identify and recognize Lutheran congregations that welcome lesbian and gay believers.

Since July 2002, the Reconciling in Christ program has been committed to the inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

All congregations, colleges, synods, seminaries and organizations on the RIC Roster have adopted Affirmations of Welcome of gay and lesbian persons. The searchable Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregration list is on a separate page.

RIC Sunday and Pride Sunday

Scheduled for January 31, 2010

Annually, the last Sunday in January is designated by the ecumenical welcoming community as Welcoming Sunday. On this day, worshippers are encouraged to join other welcoming congregations from various denominations in celebrating the witness to God's love for persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
