This message is about standing as a candidate to be a voting member to synod assembly this year and separately to Churchwide Assembly for 2011 — the voting members for Churchwide Assembly will be chosen at this year’s synod assemblies.
We spoke to you earlier about the importance of continuing the work for full inclusion begun oh-so-many years ago by those who preceded us, the work brought to such a significant milestone success in the decisions of the 2009 Churchwide Assembly, the work that many, many of you took part in through prayer, volunteering, watching and donating.
It is important to the continuance of the work towards a fully inclusive that you maintain your participation. We ask you to consider standing as a candidate for voting member to this year’s synod assembly, and to consider even further standing as candidate for voting member from your synod to the 2011 Churchwide Assembly.
The actions that will come to the assemblies this year and to the Churchwide Assembly next year will be crucial to helping all see the gift to the body of Christ that full inclusion is, at the same time as those actions will help mend some of the discord that has resulted from the contentiousness in the debate and this period following the decisions. This is especially important given the level of rancor and vitriolic rhetoric that a few, discontent with the decisions toward full inclusion, have shown in their anger, some going so far as to cut off their financial support for the work of the body of Christ, God’s work.
Continue to be a part of the history-making decisions of August 2009, continue to work towards a united church, fully inclusive of all Lutherans, doing God’s work, in the name of Christ, upholding the authority of Scripture, as God gave us grace and gives us strength to do.
You do not have to be a voting member to your synod assembly to be a candidate for voting member from your synod to the Churchwide Assembly. Contact your synod office to find out the procedures to submit a candidacy.
So, consider standing for voting member to your synod assembly this year and consider standing this year as a candidate voting member to the 2011 Churchwide Assembly… then do it.
If you do decide to stand for voting member to Churchwide Assembly, let us know so that we can support your candidacy. |
