On Friday, November 16, 2007, by a vote of 50–34 (2 abstentions), the 86-member governing synod of Norway's state Lutheran church, meeting in Lillehammer, changed the previous prohibitive policy and will allow those living in homosexual partnerships to serve in the clergy, but it will be up to each bishop to decide whether to employ them. The Unitarian Church of Evanston (UCE) recently hosted an RIC training for LC/NA in the Chicago area. Their volunteers wore beautiful hand knit scarves to designate for us who they were. In discussions over the weekend, this effective visual imagery came into the discussion and the end result was the church's knitting and crocheting group, Common Threads, volunteered to make as many of these scarves as we needed for the Churchwide Assembly. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force announced on March 13th that the Institute for Welcoming Resources (IWR), an umbrella organization for leading Protestant lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) welcoming church programs, has merged with and will become a program of the Task Force. The Metro New York Synod affirms and uplifts GLBT persons in ministry by voting to restrain discipline and to allow those in same-gender committed relationship to be rostered

The Metropolitan New York Synod met on October 29, 2005, in a special session that passed three resolutions commending the Synod for its continued efforts to minister to GLBT persons, calling for restraint in the administration of policies regarding the ministry of GLBT persons, and offering guidance in the areas of discipline and candidacy. United Methodist Judicial Council allows discrimination by individual pastors against GLBT persons, and defrocks a lesbian minister

The United Methodist Judicial Council, the denomination's highest court, has reinstated a pastor placed on a year's involuntary leave for having refused to admit a gay applicant in a committed long-term relationship into membership in the United Methodist church. In a related action, the Judicial Council also re-instated the original judicial decision to defrock the Rev Beth Stroud for being a practicing homosexual in a long-term committed relationship.
